CARTERTON
ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE SHOCK FELT LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A slight earthquake was felt in Carterton last night at 7.40 o’clock. FOOTBALL MATCH WIN FOR SOUTH ARMY. The North and South Army teams met on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday. The wbather was cold and the ground heavy to play on. The game was well contested, South winning by 19 points to IL Mr B. Hurley was referee. As a result of the match the Carterton and district patriotic appeal fund will benefit. The takings at the gate amounted to £lB. Persona! Items. Miss Rona Chew, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Chew, Rhodes Street, is spending a holiday with her parents. Mr and Mrs W. P. Foster have received information that their son Pte. Foster, is missing. Mrs J. Crawley, of Taylor Street, has found it necessary to enter the Greytown Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs D. Jensen have received a message from the Minister of Defence that their son Pte. L. Jensen is missing. Mr Fred Olsen, a brother of Mr W. Olsen, Mayor of Eketahuna, was proceeding along the road near Longburn in a motor car when an Army truck collided with him. He received a fractured pelvis and is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. His condition is reported to be satisfactory. Mrs Elizabeth Barr, widow of Mr William Barr, formerly of Wanganui and Patea, died at the residence of her son, Mi’ Frank L. Barr, Kent Street, Carterton, today. Mrs Kennedy, of Wellington, is a daughter. The late Mrs Barr was 84 years of age. The funeral will take place at Wanganui. Patriotic Dance. The weekly dance held in the State Theatre under the auspices of the Carterton and District Citizens and Y.M.C.A. Patriotic Committee on Saturday night was largely attended. First-class music was provided by the combined orchestras of Messrs Tom Udy and Frank Pool. Extras were played by members of the armed forces. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Pte. Burgess and Mrs F. Peters, and a lucky spot waltz by Mr W. Haste and Miss E. Lorensen. Mr L. M. Clark v was M.C., and the supper arrangements were supervised by the Carterton Women’s Institute.
