ALFREDTON
GAMES NIGHT A PATRIOTIC EFFORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly “games night” conducted by the Patriotic Society was held on Saturday night. The winners in the games were: Ladies, Mrs Hartley; men, Mr R. Low. In the competitions, 11b. tobacco donated by Mr J. Smith, Senr., realised £1 3s 6d and was won by Mr J. Hartley. A tray made and donated by Mr F. McLean, was won by Mr J. Hartley, who handed it back for auction; This realised £1 Ils 3d. Mr Johnson auctioned the following goods which were donated: Vegetables, donated by Mr C. Leach, realised 9s; swedes from Mr G. Napier, 4s; berries from Mr Weston realised 2s. The total for the evening was £5 14s 9d. The hostesses were Miss J. Algie and Mrs 'Algie and Mrs Hull. Personal Items. Soldiers who have been visiting their parents in this district are Privates S. Smith, F. Nordloff and W. Algie. Heavy Fall of Snow. This district experienced a heavy snowfall during the night, and after the recent floods is causing slips along the various roads.
