GREYTOWN

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held, on Tuesday evening. There were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes, W. Grigg, E. Galyer, J. Morison, H. C. Trotman, R. C. O’Neale, Mrs Knell and the headmaster, Mr S. C. Shedden. The treasurer reported the receipt of £5 16s Id, being a refund from the Health Department in connection with dental work. The headmaster reported that the present roll number was 310, being the highest recorded in the history of the school. There were four rooms without heating at the present time owing to damage to the chimneys. The chairman stated that application had been made to the Borough Council for assistance to carry out necessary repairs at the earliest possible moment. It was reported that Miss J. M. Hocquard was at present attached to the school staff in place of Miss Keddell, and that Miss M. Collier was expected to take up her duties next month. The headmaster reported that sufficient trenches for all the school pupils had been completed, and the secretary was instructed to thank the. Borough Council in connection therewith. The secretary of the E.P.S. is to be asked to arrange a meeting between the local Transport E.P.S. controller •and the school delegates for the purpose of completing the emergency transport of school children.

Bridge Party. In spite of the inclement weather a very enjoyable bridge party was held in the Plunket Rooms on Monday afternoon. The party was arranged by Mrs W. Wiggins and Miss Isobel Wiggins, secretary of the Girl Guides committee. Miss Stephens was the first prize winner and Mrs Knell won the prize for the hidden number. The Girl Guide Fund will benefit considerably from the effort. The ladies’ committee supplied afternoon tea.

Rain Stops Repair Work. The heavy rain on Monday stopped the repair work on all earthquakedamaged buildings in Greytown. Many people are still unable to have a fire in the house and in several cases bad leaks in the roof have been discoveied.

Engagement. ; The engagement is announced of Olive Beatrice, third daughter of Mr and Mrs T. M. Harvey, Greytown, to James Andrew, eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. A. Fraser, Fitzherbert Street, Featherston. TOWN HALL DOUBLE PROGRAMME. There will be a double feature programme tonight headed by the brilliant dramatic story, “Washington Melodrama,” featuring Frank Morgan and Ann Rutherford, and “Bullets foi O’Hara,” an exciting detective drama, with Joan Perry and Roger Pryor in the leading roles.
