LANSDOWNE SCHOOL

USE AS HOSPITAL. NO DEVELOPMENTS LIKELY BEFORE TUESDAY. The proposal to take over the Lansdowne School for hospital purposes, said Mr W. R. Nicol, of Masterton, a member of trie Wellington Education Board, was not likely to be advanced further until the board met next Tuesday. Mr Nicol said that Ministerial consent was necessary before the building ’could be taken over. He pointed out that the arrangements already made to find other accommodation for Lansdowne School children, in the event of the building having to be. taken over, were now of no use, as St Matthew’s Parish Hall was being used for church purposes and the brick portion of Wairarapa College was still closed to pupils. A report on the damage to the latter building as the result of the earthquake was still awaited from the engineers and in the meantime the brick portion was closed.
