APPALLING RACKET
IN NAVY DEPARTMENT DEALINGS DENOUNCED IN UNITED STATES. HUGE COMMISSIONS TO “SALES ENGINEERS.” (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 15. The Congressional Naval Committee conducting an investigation into profiteering by so-called sales engineers has exposed appalling private rackets. The chairman (Mr Vinson) revealed three sales engineers had an “inside track” at the Navy Department, enabling them to obtain war contracts for manufacturers. Each engineer had received a commission of 1,150 dollars daily since the war, a total of 6,467,701 dollars for six months. Mr Vinson added: “I am going to break up this practice of contingencies. There is no justification for them.”
