FEATHERSTON
BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council there were present the Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, and Councillors G. A. Farrier, W. J. Boston, C. R. Skipage, C. C. Kenward, R. R. P. Hardy, H. W. Cundy and T. G. Hardie. The following balances were reported: District Fund, cr. £973 Os 3d; Cemetery Account, cr. £B3 10s lOd; Domain Account, cr. £24 14s 7d; Mayor’s Relief Fund Account, cr. £75 14s 9d; Water Supply Loan, 1936 Account, cr. £47 Us 3d; Library Account, cr. £24 12s 3d. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote thanking the council for having supplied information concerning damage done by the earthquake to the soldiers’ monument, and stating that an examination of the monument would be made as soon as possible. The Featherston Miniature Rifle Club applied for the use of the gymnasium for one night each week. The request was granted. The Health Inspector reported that the health conditions in the town were very satisfactory. The Masterton County Council wrote supplying particulars of the allocation of the heavy traffic fees for the quarter ended May 31, the local council's share being £4O Os 7d. M'ajor J. G. Mitchell wrote asking that a permit be issued to allow the screening of pictures for soldiers on Sunday nights. It was resolved that the applicant be advised that the council adhered to the resolution passed at a previous meeting forbidding the screening of' pictures on Sunday. Patriotic Euchre Party. The patriotic euchre party held in the Red Cross Society’s rooms yesterday afternoon realised the sum of £1 3s, which, considering the very unfavourable weather conditions, was a good result. The card winners were Mrs McKenna, Mrs Cuff and Miss Goodrick. Donations were received from Mesdames Sim, O’Neale, Sharp, Viles, McKenna, Watson, Carlyon and Miss Goodrick. COSY THEATRE “NEW WINE.” Tomorrow night’s programme will be headed by the musical romance, “New Wine,” featuring Ilona Massey and Alan Curtis.
