ROAD BLOCKAGES
POSITION NEAR MASTERTON AND MARTINBOROUGH FLOOD IN LOWER VALLEY. NO SERIOUS DAMAGE SO FAR REPORTED. Several roads near Masterton arc blocked by slips but on the whole no very serious damage has been reported. A similar state of affairs is reported in the Martinborough area, where there is also flooding of lowlying country near the Ruamahanga River. Although the Masterton-Castlepoint Road is open, drivers are requested to exercise the utmost care on the section between Bennett’s Hill and Taueru, as this length is in very bad condition. ~ The Opaki-Mauriceville road is open to Kopuaranga, a slip at Day’s Hill having been cleared. The clearing of another slip between Kopuaranga and Mauriceville is proceeding and it is hoped to complete the task this afternoon. The filling , at Donovan's bridge has been washed away. A big slip near Mr W. James s property, Wai-iti, on the Wangaehu Road, has blocked the road. A fairly heavy flood is being experienced in the Lower Valley, near the Ruamahanga River. The Martin-borough-Featherston road was blocked (his morning at Tawaha by flood water. The Kahutara road was still open, though it may possibly be inundated later. Flood waters have closed the Martinborough-Ponatahi road at Kokotau. A fourteen-foot subsidence . has occurred at Pope's Head, on the Mar-tinborough-Hinakura road. The gap is being bridged to allow traffic to use the road. Both the MartinboroughDyerville and the Ruakakapatuna roads are blocked, the former by a slip and the latter by a washout. The Martin-borough-Pirinoa road is open.
