SCORED IN ALLIED RAIDS ON DILLI IN JAPANESE-OCCUPIED TIMOR. ALL ATTACKING PLANES RETURN SAFELY. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY, July 3. Dilli, in Japanese-occupied Timor, about 500 miles north-west of Darwin, was attacked twice on Thursday night by Allied bombers. The base has now been raided three times in two days. Thursday night’s attacks were made from a low level, the targets being building areas, the wireless station and aerodrome. Direct hits were scored on two buildings and fires were started. Two hours after the first raid a second formation of our bombers attacked Dilli. No fighter opposition was encountered, and all our planes returned safely. Though not made by great numbers of planes, the attacks on Dilli are described as “powerfully destructive nuisance raids.” The latest general headquarters communique also reveals that the recent ground raid on Salamaua was made on the night of June 27. Enemy casualties are now known to have been greater than the 60 originally claimed.
