’QUAKE DAMAGE
$ POSITION IN EKETAHUNA COMMITTEE SET UP. SERIOUS LABOUR SHORTAGE CONTINUES. The setting up of a rehabilitation committee to handle all earthquake restoration work was decided upon in Eketahuna last night it a meeting of the business community and local body representatives. Representations, it was stated, were still being made to the Prime Minister and Mr J. Robertson, M.P., regarding the serious shortage of labour to effect repairs in Eketahuna. Mr Robertson had agreed to meet those concerned in Eketahuna tomorrow afternoon. There were still no carpenters to carry out urgent repairs, and as a re-' suit of this position rain and wind were causing further damage to stock. Portion of the roof of Messrs A. H. Herbert and Co.’s building, which was damaged in the earthquake, blew off last night, and it might be necessary to evacuate half of the shop, as rain is pouring inside part of the premises. Only two additional bricklayers have arrived. It was stated that the authorities in Masterton had been particularly considerate in supplying material, and had diverted men to Eketahuna as much ns possible.
