OBITUARY
■ MRS. E. G. ETON. The many friends of Mrs Elizabeth Francis Eton, wife of Mr Edgar George Eton, J.P., of Cornwall Street, Masterton, will regret to hear of her death, which occurred in Masterton Hospital this morning. The late Mrs Eton was seriously injured in a crossing accident in Cornwall Street on June 4 and ever since been a patient in Mas-, terton hospital. In company with Mrs F. Whitton, she was proceeding in a car up Cornwall Street when the vehicle crashed into the afternoon mail train, which was travelling south. Both occupants of the car were injured and conveyed to hospital. Mrs Eton, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Jago, was born in Wellington 68 years ago. She had resided in Masterton fox - the greater part of her life. She was held in high esteem by those who knew her, A husband, one son, Mr Major Charles Eton (Australia) and one daughter, Miss Alice Eton (Masterton) are left to mourn their loss, besides two sisters, Mesdames W. S. Lambie (Hawke's Bay) and F. H. Elcoate (Melbourne) and one brother, Mr Les Jago (Napier). There are two grandchildren, Mi’ Jack Eton and Miss Beverley Eton. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the late residence. 17 Cornwall Street, following a service at 3 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. An inquest is to be opened this evening for the taking of formal evidence.
MRS J. GOGGIN.
The death occurred on Monday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs C. G. Kendrick, Feilding, of Mrs Johannah Goggin, a pioneer of the Wairarapa and Bush districts. Born at Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland, 86 years ago, she came to New Zealand in 1877 in the ship Dunedin. Subsequent to her marriage to Mr James Goggin she resided at Masterton, Featherston, Eketahuna, Mangarnaire (then known as the bush settlement of Tutaekara), and Raumati (Dannevirke), and since the death, of her husband 22 years ago she had resided in' Eketahuna.
She is survived by ten children —Mirs K. Mannell, Masterton; Mrs F. H. Baucke, Eketahuna; Mrs G. T. Cole, Featherston; Mrs C. G. Kendrick, Feilding; Mrs J. Read, Pihama; Miss J. Goggin, Hamilton; Messrs Patrick Goggin, Dargaville; John, Wellington; Francis, Eketahuna; and Richard, Dannevirke. One son, James, was killed in action at Passchendaele during the Great War. There are also 31 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Prior to the interment at Dannevirke, ori Wednesday, Requiem celebrated by the Rev. Father ' Guinane, who also conducted the service at the graveside. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.
