Further telegrams and letters of sympathy have been received from Colonel Pow, secretary of the Counties’ Association, who conveyed a message from the combined emergency committee of the boroughs and counties; from Mr M. J. Kennedy, manager of the Wellington Gas Co., offering assistance in any way possible; and from the Mayors of Wanganui, Timaru, One Tree Hill, Feilding, Nelson, Waimate, Wairoa and Napier. These are in addition to messages already mentioned. Mr P. M. Butler, secretary of the Wellington, Nelson and Westland Local Bodies and Other Labourers and Related Trades Industrial. Union of Workers, wrote stating that the officers and members of the union extended to the Mayor, councillors and citizens of Masterton their sincerest sympathy, and offering any assistance which the organisation or its members could give to the community. Mr Butler also expressed his personal sympathy. Mr and Mrs N. Yates, of Huntly, wrote offering to find accommodation in their home for any girl rendered homeless by the earthquake. Colonel T. W. McDonald expresses his sympathy to all school committees and teachers in the district whose schools and residences suffered damage in the earthquake. Urgent steps are being taken, he states, to remedy the damage.
