CHEERED IN COMMONS
DEFEAT OF THE CENSURE MOTION AFTER LONG NIGHT SITTING. CHURCHILL MAKES VICTORY SIGN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.50 J?.m.) LONDON, July 2. The announcement in the House of Commons that the no-confidence motion had been defeated by 475 votes to 25 resulted in loud cheering, members throwing order papers in the air. Members in all sides cheered Mr Churchill as he went out. Mr Churchill, smiling, glanced back and raised two fingers in the victory sign. It can now be revealed that the House of Commons rose at 2.45 a.m. on July 2, after sitting for over fifteen hours, which is a record since the outbreak of war.
