Our columns in the southern sector, northwards of the Quattara depression, engaged some enemy forces seventeen miles westwards of our position. '‘Our bombers and fighters on Wednesday, despite sandstorms, concentrated on formations and intensely attacked the enemy in the Alamein area. They also shot up landing grounds near Sidi Barrani. Seven enemy planes were destroyed and many damaged. Our heavy bombers, on an even greater scale, continued to attack enemy units. There was comparatively little enemy air activity last night. Torpedocarriers twice directly hit an Italian merchantman in the lonian Sea.”
