MOTOR VEHICLES

REGISTRATIONS DOWN SO FAR. MASTERTON POST OFFICE FIGURES. So far a marked falling-off in the registration of motor vehicles is apparent in comparison with the position last year. Up to last night the Masterton Post Office had dealt with 670 registrations, against 1170 for the corresponding period of last year. The uncertain position relating to future supplies of petrol and tires mo doubt has a bearing on the number of private cars being relicensed, and to date there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of registrations for this class of vehicle. A point that needs reemphasising is that motorists are obliged to bring with them their unused petrol coupons, as these have to be stamped before they can be used in the forthcoming licensing year . Failure to bring the coupons involves a second visit to the Post Office by the motorist concerned. It appears that applications for drivers’ licences also show a falling off compared with last year. To date, the Masterton Borough Council has issued 304 licences, against 455 at the corresponding period of last year. For the year just ended the borough issued 2271 licences . The Masterton County Council, however, reports little change in the number being issued this year compared with last year.
