—— A WESTERLY GALE LARGE AREA OF LAND UNDER WATER. (“Times-Age” Special.) A south-westerly' gale of unprecedented fury, accompanied by heavy rain was experienced in. this district during the weekend. Rivers overflowed their banks and in several places the water was over the main highway. The Pirinoa cheese factory was flooded and minor damage done. The surrounding low lying lands are a sea of water. Fortunately the outlet of the lake is open. No loss of stock has been reported. The surrounding hills are covered with snow. Personal Items. Mrs J. Pilmer, who has been on. a visit to her parents, has returned to Gisborne. Mrs J. Mundy has entered the Greytown Hospital for treatment. Mr E. Taurau has returned from Gladstone. Mr K. Matenga is visiting Gisborne owing to the illness of his sister. Mrs J. Carter has returned to Masterton. Mr J. Smart has left for Pahiatua where he will stay for a while prior to entering camp to undergo military training.
