( USE OF GAS INCREASE OWING TO COLD WEATHER. (“Times-Age” Special.) As a result of the cold, wet spell of weather there is an increased demand for gas for heating purposes, while a heavy call is being made on coke. On Tuesday 25,400 feet of gas was manufactured, this being the largest quantity recorded for 15 years. It is believed that yesterday's tally was even higher still. PATRIOTIC CONCERT KING’S THEATRE FRIDAY NIGHT. At the King’s Theatre on Friday next a concert will be staged by the Masterton Concert Party (“Let us be Gay” Company) in aid of the Carterton National Patriotic Appeal. The company is noted for the excellence of its talent and some of the best artists in the Wairarapa are in its ranks. The programme will consist of orchestral items, songs, ballets, monologues, etc., the whole making a presentation of exceptional merit. The costuming will be a feature of the concert. Patrons are assured of an enjoyable time. Citizens generally should show their patriotism by attending this outstanding concert. Post Office Hours. On Monday, the King's Birthday, the Post Office will be closed in all branches except the Telephone Exchange. Postmen’s and rural deliveries will not be made. Hockey. The Carterton B team to play Sincerity on No. 4 ground, Lansdowne, on Saturday will be as follows: J. Williams, H. Gregor B. Berry, P. Deller, A. Fairbrother, D. Jensen, B. Merwood, B. Goodin, A. Sullivan, J. Steven, P. Cooper and L. Parker. Personal Items. Mrs Brown, who has been staying in Carterton with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. McPhee, Clifton Avenue, returned to Lower Hutt yesterday. Mr and Mrs H. E. Ordish, of Dalefield, have received advice that their 4on, Pte. Alf. Ordish, has arrived at his destination fit and well. Mr A. Sutherland, who was killed when struck by a motor car on Main Road, Tawa Flat, this week, was well known in Carterton. His death came as a great shock to his local friends and to Mrs Sutherland, who has been staying in Carterton recuperating after an operation. Football Team. The Carterton B team to play Red Star at Masterton on Saturday afternoon will be chosen from the following: Lenihan, Catt, Chapman, Hurndell, Ireland, Martin, Rzoska, Burt, McPhee, U. Prichard, McKenzie (2), Phelps, Harris, Namana, McKenna. The team will assemble at the Memorial Square at 1.15 p.m. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. Tonight a double feature programme will be presented. “Power Dive” is a thrilling air story, featuring Richard Arlen, Jean Parker and Helen Mack. “The Monster and the Girl” is a sensational offering starring Ellen Drew and Robert Paige.
