IMPORTANT KEY POSITION ON KHARKOV FRONT BATTLEFIELD LITTERED WITH GERMAN DEAD. SOVIET SUCCESSES IN OTHER AREAS. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 26. “The Russians on the Kharkov •front have captured an important key position, after repulsing a . German counter-attack. The battlefield is littered with German dead,” says the Moscow radio. “Russian mortar units, cavalry and infantry swooped on the enemy, following a barrage, and when the Germans saw their tanks set on fire they threw in panzer forces in an attempt to relieve the situation. The Russian tanks ultimately decided the issue.” A Moscow communique deals with fighting on the Isyum—Barvenkova front, where a number of German tanks were destroyed, and on the Kalinin front where the Russians repulsed an enemy attack and killed 200 Germans. '■ A communique referring to the north-western front, says the Russians in one day destroyed fourteen blockhouses and twelve dugouts and silenced a number of batteries.
