TOWN AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH \ COUNCIL. PATHWAY IN DOUGLAS PARK. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presiding. Apologies for absence were received, from Councillors G. W. Morice and W. Kemp. A circular letter from the Inglewood County Council asking for support to a resolution urging that all men of military age should receive a period of training and then be allowed to return to work was received, a motion 1 moved by Councillor C. E. Grey to support the resolution being defeated, on the ground that the matter did not come within the council’s province. It was decided that £5O should‘be placed on the estimates for the formation of a pathway through Douglas Park. The council agreed to provide a space in Masterton Cemetery as a climatological station, the sexton to take the readings on the days on which he was on duty, provided the Government made arrangements for readings on his off days. The Librarian was authorised to select 50 books for despatch to the War Library Service. In view of land in Chapel Street, St by the Y.M.C.A. for a grant when the estimates were being dealt with. In view of the fact that three counPatrick’s School Trust, not being used for school recreation purposes, the council decided to make application to the Valuer-General to remove the area concerned from the exemption list in. respect to borough rates. The St. John Ambulance V.A.D’s. were given permission to use the Lecture Room on alternate Saturday afternoons from 4.30 to 5.30 ip.m.
