OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

CONDITIONS IN CAMP (To the Editor.) Sir, —Would you grant me a small space in your valuable paper to ask a few questions? Lately we had a big ingathering for Patriotic purposes of one million pounds, to be distributed among many deserving objects, one of which was to provide comforts for our soldiers both at home and overseas. What constitutes comforts? A few cigarettes, etc? The boys here —have they any comforts?, I should say that the greatest of all comforts would be to provide bathing facilities, drying of their wet clothing and a spot of electric lighting at camps, not by cadging lanterns and baths from the people, who thought that decent conditions would be naturally provided for their boys. It is time—high time—that this matter Avas taken up seriously and the living conditions in the camps improved. What was the £1,000,000 for? If and when the time comes will the Home Guard fight less valiantly because they live (we suppose) in better conditions. No! — Thanking you, Yours, etc., VERY DISGUSTED. Masterton, May 17. HELPING MILK ROUNDSMEN (To the Editor.) Sir,—Customers might greatly assist our milk roundsmen in their arduous job by fixing a small stand at the front gate, similar to the letter box, to hold the milk container out of the reach of cats and dogs. This would save the roundsmen an immense amount of time now spent in running between front gates and back doors. The roundsmen are doing good service and I am sure the assistance here suggested would be appreciated. —Yours, etc., H. PRESTON. Masterton, May 18.
