SCHOOL COMMITTEE — PROTECTION OF CHILDREN DISCUSSED. (“Times-Age” Special.)' The monthly meeting of the Greytown School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, there being pre-' sent Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman),; F. Dennes (treasurer), W. Grigg, R. i O'Neale, H. C. Trotman, W. Wiggins,! Mrs Knell (secretary) and the head-1 master, Mr S. C. Shedden. : The headmaster’s report stated tha'j 40 swimming certificates had been gained, and three girls had secured one mile certificates. The school gardens had just completed a large sowing of onion seed. The present roll was: Primary 294, secondary 39. The Education Board’s circular in reference to the protection of school children was fully discussed, and it was decided to write to the Transport Controller re transport of school children to their homes. At present, it was pointed out, 100 children came by bus to the Greytown School. Messrs Grigg and Wiggins were appointed school visitors. The balance sheet was returned duly audited and certified as correct. The treasurer, Mr Dennes, was congratulated on the way he had carried out his duties. Personal. Sergt. H. Morgan is spending his furlough in Grey town. Mrs C. Burt, of Island Bay,' is ' the guest of Mrs R. Thomas, Moroa. Mrs F. Bull, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs A. H. Bull, Udy Street. Miss D. Richards, of McMaster Street, is visiting Wellington. Miss T. Trotman, of Rotorua, is staying with her sister, Mrs T. Gold, Mair. Street. Hockey. The Greytown hockey team to plaj “H” at Carterton at 3 p.m. tomorrow i; as follows: R. Jury, Trotman (2), I. McKenzie, R. Gallon, F. Skeet, D. Ross. M. Rees, M. Bouzaid, A. Dawber, C. Anker. TOWN HALL “Buck Pirates,” a big parade of long and hearty laughs, with Budd Abbott, Lou Costello and the Andrew Sisters, will be shown tomorrow at 2.15 and 8 p.m. Also screening is episode 5 of “Drums of Fu Manchu.”
