EKETAHUNA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute was held recently in the Anglican Hall. Mrs E. Albrechtsen presided over a fair attendance of members. A report of the annual council meeting was read by Mrs Schorman. It was decided to hold a social afternoon on June 11, at 1.30 p.m. The potato competition was won by Mrs Fraser with 20|lbs. Other competition winners were as follows: —Mrs Albrechtsen 1 and 3; Mrs Duncan 2. Three flowers: Mrs Baucke 1, Mrs Duncan 2, Miss Schorman 3; mittens, Miss Hooper 1, Mrs R. Farrow 2, Miss Mitchell 3; largest potato, Mrs Duncan 1. Members stood in silence in respect to the late Mr W. Nagel. The hostesses were Mesdames Brittain and Olsen. Kaiparoro Branch. A meeting of the Kaiparoro branch of the Bush District Federation of Women’s Institutes was held in the Hall on Tuesday, May 12. Mrs McAnulty presided. The president thanked the members for their efforts in regard to knitting. The delegate to the recent Council meeting presented her report. Competitions were won as follows: — Sock top mittens, Mrs G. Dick; best flower, Mrs J. C. McAnulty (chrysanthemum). A suecial prize donated by Mrs J. C. McAnulty for the best war time recipe was won by Mrs G. A. Hansen with a recipe for apple fritters. Mrs Hansen was also the winner of a game arranged by Mrs Braddick.
