PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE i | MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. i ’ (“Times-Age" Soecial.i ’ The Grey town Patriotic Committee met in the Council Chambers last evening. The. Mayor. Mr A. W. Horton. presided and twenty members wore present. The collectors’ progress report was placed before tho meeting and it was stated that to date £lO6 had been handed in. It was resolved to organise a Paddy’s Market and Mrs A. Johnson was appointed convener of the committee. Miss Ivl. Dull was appointed secretary and treasurer in the place of Mr S. C. Shedden. A hearty welcome was accorded Miss Duff. The chairman tabled the correspondence in reference to the entertainment of soldiers and referred to what was being carried out in Greytown. ST. LUKE’S CHURCH LADIES’ GUILD. The St Luke’s Ladies’ Guild held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon in the Parish Hall. Mrs York, president, welcomed a new member, Mrs Laurenson. A letter of thanks was received from the matron of All Sainis Children’s Home, Palmerston North, for a parcel of clothing'forwarded by Guild members. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Canon Sykes. of Lower Hutt, in connection with the honour bestowed on him by the Bishop of Wellington. A vote of sympathy was passed to Miss Kidd, who is ill in Wellington Hospital. The Trustees for the following year are Mesdames Smallwood, Everett and Rees. Votes of thanks were’passed to Mesdames Blissett and Keedwell for gifts of sugar and tea. It was announced that the halfyearly contributions in the mission box totalled 6s 6d. It was decided to hold a Paddy’s Market at the end of the year, in aid of church funds. The hostesses were Mesdames E. Richards and H. G. Carter. Personal. Included in the list of graduates in’ Canada, who have obtained their “wings.” is Terry Sugrue, well known as a Wairarapa representative footballer, TOWN HALL “PHILADELPHIA STORY.” The outstanding drama of life, "Philadelphia Story,” will be shown tomorrow night with James Stewart. Cary Grand and Katharine Hepburn in the chief roles. The thrilling serial. "The Drums of Fu Manchu,” as well as "Philadelphia Story,” will be screened at the matinee tomorrow.
