WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA. MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon in the Epiphany Hall. Mrs Scrivener, vice-president, in the absence of the president, Mrs Diamond, presided over a good attendance of members and friends. The roll call, “Suggestions for the Improvement of Our Institute,” was very well responded to. Mrs Thompson read a report on the annual, meeting of the Wairarapa Federation of Women’s Institutes. Mrs Robieson gave a practical demonstration of spinning from a fleece of wool, and exhibited some excellent finished articles. Competition winners were as follow: —Best bloom, Mrs Munn 1, Mrs Cotton 2, Mrs Groombridge 3; chrysanthemums, Mrs Munn 1, Mrs Carr 2, Mrs Carmen 3; re-made article, Mrs Munn 1, Mrs Carr and Mrs Cotton (equal) 2, Mrs Groombridge 3; gingerbread, Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs Munn 2. The programme for June is as follows: —Roll call, “Recipe for Retaining My Youth”; sewing, boy’s shirt; cooking, wholemeal and plain scones; flowers, bunch of berries and best bloom.
