DASHING ATTACK
ON ENEMY-OCCUPIED AERODROME. NEW ZEALAND-AMERICAN CO-OPERATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, May 7. Bostons, Havocs and Hurricanes raided aerodromes in France and Holland last night, directly hitting runways and starting fires, states the Air Ministry news service. A New Zealand Hurricane pilot and an all-American crew Havoc co-operated in an attack against an enemy plane. The New Zealander came over an aerodrome in Holland and saw an enemy plane about to land. He dived from 2,500 feet head-on, attacked and saw his shells strike home. He then had to bank steeply and climb in order to avoid a collision. The Havoc then came into the picture, dropping high explosives and incendiaries on the runway and causing a fire which lit the interior of the Havoc. The crew could still see a vivid glow when they were sixty miles away on their homeward journey.
