Plans for the rehabilitation clover 5.000 Post and Telegraph men on service with the New Zealand armed forces and for the employment of other ex-Service men as well, were submitted by the Director-General of the Department, Mr J. G. Young, to the Rehabilitation Board at a recent meeting. 1 Besides aiming at the restoration 'of men to their old positions the plans include the provision of suitable duties for those unable, by reason of war service, to resume their normal positions, special tuition at training schools, facilities to ex-students for university attendance and correspondence courses, special treatment for men unable to do a full day’s work, the granting of accumulated leave both to civilians and returned soldiers, the construction of communication lines, automatic telephone exchanges, new post offices, the removal of war time curtailments and the reduction of overtime to a minimum, thus enabling more men to be employed. Mr Young indicated that a great deal would depend on the supply of material and he believed it would include making use of articles manufactured in the Dominion.
