GREAT EXPLOSION
IN CHEMICAL FACTORY IN BELGIUM 250 PERSONS KILLED & MANY INJURED. ANNOUNCEMENT IN BERLIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 1. It was officially announced in Berlin that 250 persons were killed and over 1000 injured in an explosion in a chemical factory at Tessenderloo (30 miles from Brussels). Three hundred of the injured were taken to hospital. Army detachments and special rescue squads immediately began work. The factory *was engaged in the manufacture of acids used in explosives. Sabotage has been frequent in the area.
