AUGSBURG RAID

LEADER AWARDED V.C. NINETEEN OTHERS DECORATED. ALL MEMBERS OF RHODESIA SQUADRONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 27. Acting Squadron Leader J. D. Nettleton has been awarded the Victoria Cross for his part in the recent daylight raid on Augsburg in southern Germany. Twelve of the R.A.F.’s new Lancaster bombers flew at a low level 1000 miles to press home the attack. Four were shot down over France, and three others also failed to return. Nineteen other airmen who took part in the attack were decorated. One received the D. 5.0., eight the D.F.C., and 10 the D.F.M. All belong to 97 and 44 Rhodesia Bomber Squadrons.
