E.P.S. WARDENS

MEETING LAST NIGHT POWERS & DUTIES DISCUSSED. BLACKOUT ENFORCEMENT. A meeting of wardens of No. 3 district was held last night. Mr R. Lambert (No. 3 Area Warden) presided, and Mr W. Kemp (Masterton District Warden) was present.

Mr Kemp dealt in detail with the regulations governing wardens’ powers and. duties, which arc now embodied in pamphlet form, and answered many questions. The obligations of householders and business firms under the regulations were fully discussed. It was pointed cut that numbers of breaches occurred through householders opening fanlights for ventilation purposes and allowing the escape of direct rays of Ught through the opening, although the fanlight itself had been covered with blackout material. In future it will be necessary for householders who wish to open their fanlights to cover the light behind them with a regulation blackout shade. This also applies to hall lights shining directly outside when the door is opened.

The regulations governing motor lights are also to be enforced more strictly in future. It is an offence for motorists to leave their head-lamps burning when their cars are stationary. Parking lights of low power are allowable, and it was stated that it would be in order for motorists who park anywhere near a street lamp to extinguish all their lights.

Mr Kemp said that a full-dress rehearsal of all branches of the E.P.S. is to be hold shortly in Masterton, when the effects of an imaginary airraid will be dealt with.
