BECOMING SCARCE
FEATHERLIGHT FOUNDATIONS. Any woman who is the happy possessor of one of those featherlight foundations made partly of lastex net, will soon be the envy of her friends, for stocks of them are becoming scarce and difficult to replace —the fabric is imported from America. Because of the exceeding lightness of the material, these garments need careful handling. Never expose them to heat in the washing or drying. Never put on roughly, digging the fingernails into the elastic net portion; they require to be put on like stockings; turned inside out and the bottom edge pulled up first (to waist level), then the top drawn up over it, and finally the whole thing eased down into place. Sometimes purchasers of these garments have been dismayed to discover, on close inspection afterwards, what seems to be a minute flaw in the elastic net down the seams. This is where the machine needle has come down on an elastic fibre. In England and America, where these foundations are prime favourites, this is known as a common thing with all elastic nets, and, since it amounts to no more than a slight enlargement of one of the tiny net holes and in no way. impairs the strength of the garment, it is ignored.
