FEATHERSTON

FARMERS’ UNION ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Feathers- 1 ton branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Friday evening, Mr E. E. O’Neale presiding over a fair attendance.

A good deal of routine business was transacted and it was decided to ask the dairy companies to ascertain the amount of stand-by milking plant available amongst their suppliers in the event of electric power being cut off in an emergency. The financial statement was read by the provincial secretary, Mr R. H. Williams. This showed a very healthy condition and the secretary was complimented on his good work in this and in other directions.

The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mi’ R. E. Crawford; deputychairman, Mr E. E. O’Neale; committee, Messrs A. J. Rendle, G. T. Cole, R. R. P. Hardy. A. J. Feast, R. T. Pillar and W. Hutchings; delegates to conference. Messrs R. E. Crawford, A. J. Rendle,and R. T. Pillar; delegates to executive, Messrs R. E. Crawford and A. J. Rendle. It was decided to write to Mr H. J. Hutchings, the late chairman, thanking him for his past services in the interests of the union.

The following remits were passed for submission to conference: “That representations be made to the Government to include a member of the Dairy Board on the Meat Board. “That representations be made to the Government that the price for potter bulls be increased.” It was pointed out this was 27s per lOOlbs in Australia and only 3s in New Zealand.

Poppy Day Sales. The amount realised from the sale of poppies in Featherston and district was £36 Bs, as compared with £34 last year. Soldiers' Dance. There was a very good attendance at the soldiers’ dance held on Friday night at the Town Hall. The music was supplied by Ashton’s orchestra while three extras were played by Miss Grace Fraser. Mr Talbot capably carried out the duties of M.C. The Junior Patriotic Committee supervised the supper arrangements. Personal Items. Miss Florence Jones, Northland, spent the weekend with relatives in Featherston. Mr Kirby, of Wellington, was the guest of Mr J. W. Card for the weekend. Mr and Mrs Frank White visited Pahiatua for the weekend. ,
