WAIRARAPA CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING. OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr Norman Lee, was in the chair. Also present were Mesdames K. Siddells, L. T. Herbert, Miss M. Tylee and Mr D. Pryor, Pahiatua; Mesdames W. D. Scott, I. Cross and Mr Magnus Priest, Eketahuna; Mr and Mrs A. Forsberg, Mauriceville; Mesdames A. C. Gawith, W. James and W. Taylor, Country Districts; Mrs. H. P. Harrison, Miss K. Cruickshank and Mr J. Ninnes, Masterton; Miss C. Berrill and Mr D. L. Taverner, Carterton; Mr A. W. Horton, Greytown; Mesdames G.,S. Sharp, H. C. Hunter, H. Lawson, Featherston; Mesdames J. C. Bidwill, C. C. Collins, Pahautea-Kahutara; Miss E. Alpe, Messrs AV. B. Martin and N. C. D. Mason, Martinborough. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs W. D. Cuthbert and Miss Twentyman (Hukanui) and Mr C. C. Callender (Carterton).

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr Norman Lee; vicepresidents, Messrs D. Pryor, D. L. Taverner and W. H. Martin; secretary, owing to the resignation of Miss R. Elliott, as hon secretary, the executive was empowered to appoint a secretary in her stead, Miss Elliott agreeing to carry on in the meantime; hon treasurer, Miss M. C. Ross; executive committee, president, secretary, treasurer, Mrs W. James (Country Districts), Mr J. Ninnes (Masterton), Mrs A. F. Stewart (Centre Commandant of Voluntary Aids), Miss K. Cruickshank (representing the Red Cross Transport Services). '

The annual report stated that there were 1623 members distributed among 11 sub-centres. Three voluntary aid detachments had been formed in the Pahiatua-Eketahuna-South Wairarapa area. There were 78 voluntary aids with 60 hours’ hospital training each. Among others, thanks are extended to the following for assistance given during the year: Mrs D. A. Hunn, Rev H. S. Kings, Messrs Low & Cunningham, C. E. Daniell, Ltd. and staff, C. H. Collier, W. L. Butler, J. Hunter, Miss Holtham, Jenkins Motor Service, Snelgrove’s Royal Blue Bus Service, F. B. Gray, Wrigley’s Motor Service, Martinborough Motor Service and Wairarapa Transport Service.
