FEATHERSTON

NATIONAL RESERVE

ANNUAL MEETING OF BRANCH

(“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Feathei - ston branch of the Womens National Reserve was held in the Red Cioss Depot yesterday. There were present Miss H. Card (in the chair), Miss B. Donald, Mesdames Carlyon, Archie Clark, H. Cundy, Fellingham, Halpin, Holland, Hunter, Lawson, Lowell, McKenzie, McKenna, Ritchie, Sharp, Tutbury, and Bloxam. Apologies for absence were received from Misses E. Card and E. Viles, Mesdames Shepherd, Wakely and Yule. The election of officers resulted in the re-election of Miss Card as president and Mrs Bloxam as secretary. Arrangements were made for the immediate purchase of 601bs of honey for the annual gift to the Porirua Mental Hospital. It was decided to place flowers on the cemetery memorial fortnightly instead of weekly as hitherto, and that there be no official wreaths arranged for Anzac Day, owing to war conditions. Three new members were elected— Mrs Feast, Mrs J. Holland land Mrs McKenna.

The annual sale of poppies will be held on Friday, April 24.

The annual report stated: The year’s work has been much the same as other years—the Poppy Day sale, the arrangement for the many wreaths for Anzac Day, the sending of 601bs of honey to the Porirua Mental Hospital and the putting of flowers every week on the soldiers’ memorial in the cemetery. On Armistice Day, Miss Card placed a wreath from the W.N.R. on the Town Memorial. Two new matters were dealt with. The first was the nominating of delegates from the branch to elect three members to the district committee of the W.W.S.A. The other was the furnishing of a report of the branch’s work to Dominion Secretary of the W.N.R. to be read at its annual, meeting. The sale of poppies realised nearly £2 more than the previous record of £32 18s in 1939, the next best to this being £29 2s in 1927. We have lost two members through their having left the district—Mrs Ayre and Mrs J. B. Davis. Both the president and the secretary thank all those members whose loyal support at Anzac time and throughout the year has kept the branch’s work going so efficiently.
