WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the birthday meeting of the Te Ore Ore Women’s Institute, Mrs G. McRae presided over a fair attendance of members. Musical items were rendered by Misses T. Haeata and Andrews and a short play reading was given- by Mesdames Brunton, Mcßae, Misses T. Haeata and Tankersley. Several competitions were held during the evening, the winners being: Lighting the candle, Miss Tankersley; walking the chalk line blindfold, Mrs Brunton and Miss Jacques (equal); proverbs, Mrs McDonald; celebrities, Mrs McDonald.
A birthday cake made and decorated by Mrs McDonald was cut by Mrs J. Haeata.
After supper, the prizes for the year’s competitions were presented by the president, the following being the winners:—Sewing and cooking competition: Mrs McLauchlin; best bloom, Mrs McLauchlin; games, Mrs McDonald; most new members for the year, Miss T. Haeata; most points gained for the year, Mrs McDonald. In a few well chosen words the president thanked the members for their co-operation throughout the year and brought a very pleasant gathering to a close.
