COUNTY AFFAIRS

MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council, Mr E. W. Cheetham presided, and there were also present: Councillors A. Forsberg, A. Gray, J. H. MacDonald, and O. Welch. An apology for absence was received from Mr D. Bennett.

The treasurer’s report, which showed a credit balance of £1604 3s 9d, was adopted. Accounts amounting to £348 13s Id were passed for payment. It was resolved that tenders be called for repairs to the Swing Bridge on the Masterton-Weber Highway. It was reported that good progress was being made with the work on Brookes’s bridge. It was resolved that war damage risk insurance be taken out on all the counties’ vehicles.

A letter was received from the N.Z. Counties’ Association regarding the liability of the council for any damage caused through trenches dug by Home Guardsmen on roads in the county. It was resolved that further inquiries be made regarding the matter.

The county overseer, Mr C. Seymour, reported that satisfactory progress had been made with county work during the month.
