CARTERTON
VALUABLE INSTITUTIONS THEIR CLOSE ASSOCIATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The close association of the Carterton Football Club and the Carterton Fire Brigade has been often the subject of comment. The football club produced excellent fire brigadesmen and the fire brigade top-notch footballers, while the social atmosphere provided led to solid comradeship. The fire brigade has a Dominion-wide reputation for efficiency and has probably won more trophies than any other country brigade in New Zealand. Their success is due to the splendid spirit shown by the members in pulling together for the general good of the community. It was the same 100 per cent unity that led the Carterton Football Club to secure so many victories in championship contests. As the football club practised intensely to achieve the top of the ladder so did the fire brigade undertake its training with commendable vigour. Today the war has depleted the ranks of both institutions but, nevertheless, every effort is being made to keep the standard of efficiency at a high level, and particularly so in regard to the fire brigade.
