COUNTY AFFAIRS
FEATHERSTON COUNCIL monthly meeting of members NO MACHINERY FOR ROAD WORK (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council is being held at Martinborough today, Mr A. B. Martin presiding. A letter was received from Mrs Swainson, licensee of the Lake Ferry Hotel, asking for a reduction in rent. The matter was referred to a committee with power to act. The National Services Department forwarded a circular in connection with the Emergency Precautions Scheme. The chairman said that the whole thing seemed to be in a chaotic state, and he thought that the council should wait until something stable was produced before taking action. The Pukekohe Borough Council wrote asking for the council’s support to a resolution requesting the Government to improve the war regulations. It was decided that the matter was one for the Government to deal with. , A letter was received from the Pahautea Dairy Company drawing attention to the bad state of the roads in the district. Councillor Bidwill stated that nothing could be done at present as the Army had commandeered all the county’s plant. The work would be put in hand as soon as possible. The ranger reported having registered nine dogs. The treasurer reported that the year had commenced with a credit of £70(50 1 and had ended with a credit of slightly over £BOOO.
