In response to offers by many subjects of Allied and neutral countries, the Government has decided that, subject to certain conditions, such persons may in future enlist in the Army or Air Force for service overseas or in New Zealand. In making this announcement last night the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, said that a very large number of requests had been received from the nationals of Allied and neutral countries who were now resident in New Zealand that they should be allowed to assist New Zealand and the Empire. “The Government appreciates,” said the Minister, “the loyal and helpful spirit which has caused these requests to be made, and gratefully accepts the valuable assistance which is offered.”
