CARTERTON

BOWLING LADIES' PAIRS TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) An all-day progressive pairs tournament was held by the Ladies’ Bowling Club on Saturday and an enjoyable time was spent. The results are as follow:— Miss Armstrong and Mrs Booth (s) beat Mesdames Swan and Martin (s); Mesdames Adams and Colson (s) beat Mrs Bredin and Miss Lamb (s); Miss Armstrong and Mrs Martin (s) beat Mrs Adams and Miss Lamb (s); Mesdames Swan and Colson (s) beat Mesdames Bredin and Booth (s); Miss Armstrong and Mrs Colson (s) beat Mesdames Bredin and Martin (s); Mesdames Adams and Booth (s) beat Mrs Swan and Miss Lamb (s); Miss Armstrong and Miss Lamb (s) beat Mesdames Bredin and Colson (s); Mesdames Swan and Booth (s) beat Mesdames Adams and Martin (s). The trophies which were presented by Mrs B. Booth were won by Mrs Colson (s) with three wins, and Miss Armstrong (lead) with four wins.

Dance at State Theatre. There was a very good attendance at the dance held on Saturday night at the State Theatre under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A. and citizens’ entertainment committee. The music was supplied by Mr T. Udy’s orchestra. Mr P. Beere made an efficient M.C. Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. Personal Items. Leading Aircraftman G. V. Tunnicliffe, and his father. Mr V. K. Tunmcliffe, of Auckland, are visitors to Dalefield. Seaman Noel Jensen, of Carterton, left this morning for Auckland, after having spent leave with his parents, REGENT THEATRE “MEN OF BOYS’ TOWN.” The picture to be presented tonight “Men of Boys’ Town,” is an exceptionally good one, with Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy in the chief roles.
