GREYTOWN
OBITUARY MRS L. BOUZAID. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at Greytown on Saturday of Mrs Lateby Bouzaid, widow of the late Mr George Bouzaid, of Greytown, at the age of 82 years.
THE HOME GUARD MEN KEEN ON THEIR WORK. The keenness displayed by the local Home Guard is emphasised by the attendance at the various parades, etc., and it is gratifying to record the fact that all concerned are bent upon doing their duty and to be fit to take their place in the defence of the area allotted to them should an emergency arise. This district has supplied a substantial number of soldiers and airmen to the New Zealand forces and with the addition of the Home Guard and the E.P.S.. Greytown is substantially “doing her bit.” As far back as the Boer War the men of Greytown did their duty by providing a substantial quota for overseas and that good record has been continued ever since.
Sport and the War. Sport is practically at its lowest ebb in sixty years in Greytown, due to the large number of young men who are in the New Zealand war services. There will be a few of the older men playing golf, but in regard to football the local club will find it difficult to field a good senior team. Duty to the country is considered more vital than sport, and, consequently, there will be some lean times ahead in Greytown in connection with outdoor pastimes. TOWN HALL “TWENTY-ONE DAYS TOGETHER.” “Twenty-one Days Together” is the brilliant picture which will be shown tonight, featuring Vivien Leigh and Lalirence Olivier.
