BONDS FOR BOMBERS
CAMPAIGN IN NEW ZEALAND DRAWING TO A CLOSE. ' NEARLY £2,000,000 SUBSCRIBED. (By Telegraph-—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. With the campaign nearing its end, investments in Bomber Bonds in New Zealand had last night reached a total of £1,892,903, and it is expected that the £2,000,000 mark will be reached by the time the Dominion's big effort closes tomorrow night. Yesterday’s contributions totalled £175,452, and it is hoped that over the last two days the public’s financial effort will be sustained at least on the very satisfactory basis which has so far characterised the campaign. Investments recorded at the principal centres up to last night were:— Auckland, £417,343; Wellington, £249,874; Christchurch, £220,534; Hamilton, £139,470; Napier, £124,717; Palmerston North, £110,305; Wanganui, £95,626; Dunedin, £91,520; New Plymouth, £91,312; Invercargill, £59,401; Thames, £56,849; Gisborne, £49,440; Timaru, £48,732; Nelson, £45,769; Greymouth, £43,169; Blenheim, £31,426; Oamaru, £9,818; Westport, £7.598. Included in the New Plymouth total were the figures for Hawera, where £7,000 was realised from the sale of bonds on the streets yesterday, and the total investment for the day was £lO,773. Headquarters of the Air Training Corps advises that members of its various units have contributed £2,330. MASTERTON SALES. TOTAL NOW OVER £15,000. Bonds for Bombers for a value of £1243 were sold in Masterton yesterday. Masterton’s total since the campaign started at the beginning of last week is £15,013.
