BLACKOUT TRIAL
DISTRICT CONTROLLER WELL SATISFIED. RESULTS VERY GOOD INDEED. "Very good indeed for a first trial." said Mr George Brown, District Lighting Controller, referring this morning to last evening’s blackout trial in Mas-, terton. Mr Brown said it was rather noticeable that a number of people, who had apparently not made any blackout arrangements, had switched off their lights altogether. The controller of the law and order section of the E.P.S. reported little trouble with motorists during the period of the trial. Electric street lights in the Railway Settlement shone brightly during the trial and those in Tararua Street were also burning for at least part of the blackout period. Otherwise, the streets were in darkness except for the light of the moon. The warning sirens were heard in most parts of the town, though some residents reported that the sirens could not be heard.
