DAY OF PRAYER

SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICES. LARGE CONGREGATIONS RECORDED. Special intercession services held at Masterton and district churches yesterday, in accordance with the expressed wish of the King, were all largely attended. At the morning service at St Matthew's, the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, read the lessons and the choir sang the anthem “Jerusalem.” Special prayers were offered of thanksgiving and for strength and guidance. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich spoke of the place of faith in bringing victory. There was another large congregation at the evening service and all the country services were also well attended. The services at Knox Church were conducted by the Right Rev John Davie. The morning one at the Methodist Church was taken by Mr F. G. Rutter and the evening service by the Rev H. S. Kings. The Rev David McNeur conducted services at the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church in the morning and evening, at a Home Guard parade at Te Whiti in the morning and at a Boy Scout and Cub parade in Eketahuna in the afternoon. The Rev R. Dickie held services at Opaki and Mauriceville. The special services at the Salvation Army Citadel were led by Major Dick in the morning and by Major Ransom in the evening.
