MASTERTON ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING. ADDRESS BY MISS ENGLAND. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting last night of the Masterton Free Kindergarten Association. The president, Mrs C. J. Williams, presided. Miss Maud England, secretary of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union, who was introduced by Mrs Williams, emphasised the importance of the age between three and five years and pointed out that it was during this period that the child really was moulded into an individual. The importance of kindergarten training over this period was, therefore, self-evident. Kindergarten instruction instilled courage and self-confidence, and directed the child’s actions into constructive channels. Miss England was accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion of her address.
The following nominations were received for the executive committee: Mesdames Anderson, Burke, Davis, Ford, Hair, Jacobsen. Mackay, McMaster, Maclennan, McKee Wright, Johnson, Robertson, Williams and Taylor. No election was necessary. The annual report, which recorded a successful year, gave details of how the Free Kindergarten movement was started in Masterton. Thanks were expressed to the committee for its hard work and willing co-operation, the Masterton Borough Council, Mr J. Robertson, M.P., Trust Land Trust, and others who had assisted. More members were needed. Several successful efforts had been held to raise funds for the erection of a kindergarten. According to the balance sheet a sum of £205 7s Id was in hand and £5O was held in trust by the Trust Lands Trust.
