CARTERTON COUNCIL LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. ANZAC DAY SERVICES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor (Mi- D. L. Taverner) presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council last evening. There were also present: Councillors E. McKenzie, H. Mortenson, W. A. Hart, H. E. Jackson, O. W. Wolters, W. H. Harry and the Town Clerk, Mr P. A. Cole. Apologies for absence’ were received from Councillors L. M. Clark, C. J. DeLacey and C. E. Stevens. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of £355 7s lid in the District Fund Account, and a credit of £366 19s in the Gasworks Account. A discussion took place in regard to the. rental of the Bandroom and it was decided that the matter be left in the hands of the Hall Committee. It was resolved that the Anzac Day service be held in Carrington Park, and that a dual service be held at the Regent and. State theatres. It was decided that the Traffic Inspector’s attention be drawn to the excessive speed at which military transport and motor cycles were driven through the borough. It was resolved to ask the Wairarapa Electric Power Board to reconsider the present charges for power for street lighting, and if it were posi sible to reduce the power of the lamps at present in use. The works committee recommended among other matters that the whole of the frontage and yard on the western side of the State Theatre be attended to and also the footpath to the school fence; that the footpath on the southern side of the road from Dixon Street be completed, tarred and kerbed; that the footpath in Kent Street for approximately a distance of 5 chains be completed to the western boundary of Councillor Jackson’s property, and that the borough overseer be instructed to take levels with a view to draining this area. The report was adopted.
