POWER BOARD BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tarawa Electric Power Board there were present Messrs P. Davies (chairman), P. Page. L. Johnston, C. T. Richardson, S. J. Judd, E. W. Cheetham, A. W. Bisset, W. Britland, J. G. Brechin, J. B. Carruthers. An apology for absence was received from Mr Thos. Fouhy. The Secretary-Treasurer reported that the Government Audit Inspector had, since the last.meeting completed the audit for the year ended March 31, 1941, and had made a thorough inspection of all the Board's affairs. Although it had been found necessary to make certain alterations to the balance sheet everything was found to be satisfactory. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr McLean, the auditor concerned, and also the Audit Department, expressing thanks for all the trouble Mr McLean had gone to. It was decided that owing to the shortage of staff 1 and material due to war conditions that the Power Boards’ Association be asked to make every effort to get the Government chief electrical engineer to suspend the regulation requiring electrical supply authorities to carry out a five yearly inspection of consumer's installations. The financial statement submitted by the Secretary-Treasurer for the eleven months of the year to February 28 revealed that the total receipts from sales of electricity amounted to £32,948;' from trading £9,867; from rents £528 and from other sources £144. Expenditure for the same period amounted to £40,304. The gross sales of electricity to. January 31 showed an increase of £945 over the corresponding period for the previous year, while the gross trading sales showed a decrease of £2095. In March the following payments would fall due: For principal repayments £3,681, for interest on loans £2,982, for sinking fund £2,574, making a total of £9,237. Against this the sum of £3.500 would be received from the Sinking Fund Commissioner towards the principal repayments. The statement was adopted by the Board.
