ON ISLAND AERODROMES MOST SUCCESSFUL YET. SUPPOSED ENEMY PLANES OVER TOWNSVILLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, March 21. The latest Allied air attacks on Japanese island aerodromes north of Australia are described in a communique from Canberra as the most successful . yet made in the Pacific air war. In attacks during the weekend by American and Australian planes over New Guinea and New Britain 23 Japanese aircraft were either destroyed or damaged. It is officially announced in Canberra that unidentified aircraft which were reported over Townsville, North Queensland, in the last two days, are believed to have been Japanese reconnaissance planes.
