FURTHER ACTION
EXPECTED SOON IN BURMA ATTEMPT TO USE CAPTURED INDIAN SOLDIERS. MEN ESCAPE WITH USEFUL INFORMATION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) RUGBY, March 23. The latest Burma. communique, while giving little information of the land fighting, makes it clear that the Japanese have reinforced their air force. It is pointed out in informed quarters that this is the usual preliminary to further action by land or sea, which may therefore be expected shortly. The escape of eight Indian Sepoys meanwhile is considered extremely interesting as showing'the grave miscalculation the Japanese have made as to the possible use of captured Indian soldiers. Clearly it was thought that they could be turned to good use as traitors to their own country and the fact that they were brought to Burma from Bangkok raises the possibility that the Japanese imagined they had secured potential leaders for dissentient Burmans, thus providing a means of throwing discredit on the British administration in India. The information which these loyal soldiers can give the British military authorities should be very useful.
