PUBLICAN CHARGED
ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. ACCUSED SENT TO TRIAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, March 18. In the Magistrate’s Court John Morresey, aged 37, publican, Wataroa, was charged that at Wataroa on February 10 he attempted to murder Aage Anton Pedersen and also Thomas Francis Walsh. Long evidence, with admissions by accused allegedly made to police officers on the morning of the shooting acknowledging his action, was heard. The evidence of Pedersen and Walsh was taken at the Westland Hospital, where both are still patients on the road to recovery. Walsh’s evidence said Pedersen and Morresey were both very drunk and fought for a considerable time before the shooting took place. Accused was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Court in Greymouth. The question of bail was deferred till next Monday.
