SWIMMING SPORTS ON SATURDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the weekly carnival held by the Carterton Amateur Swimming Club at the Municipal Baths on Saturday. The weather was fine. The officials of the club worked hard to make the gathering a success, and the events were got off without delay. The results were as follow: —Junior boys’ race, 25 yards: B. Hemi 1, RGoodin 2, W. Billington 3; time, 15 secs. Junior girls’ race, 25 yards: A. Fairbrother 1, J. Paterson 2; time, 19 3-ssecs. Sorensen Cup, 440 yards: N. Desmond 1, G. Burt 2; time, 7min. 50 secs. Soldiers’ event, 50 yards: Baker 1, Hearfield 2, Edser 3; time, 33 4-ssecs. Ladies’ handicap, 25 yards: B. Matson 1, B. Berry 2, A. Fairbrother 3; time, 15secs. King Rose Bowl, 25 yards: L. Hemi 1, D. McKenzie 2, B. Desmond 3; time, 13secs. Junior dive (Bond Cup): L Spooner 1. B. Berry and D. McKenzie (equal) 2. 50 yards intermediate boys’ handicap: J. Berry 1, P. Bond 2, D. McKenzie 3. Dual relay race: D. McKenzie and L. Hemi 1, J. Berry and P. Bond 2, G. Burt and B. Desmond 3. ENJOYABLE GATHERING POPULAR LADY HONOURED. The Dalefield Hall was filled on Saturday evening, the occasion being a dance and “parcel evening” tendered to Miss Iris Zillwood, whose marriage will take place shortly. A very enjoyable time was spent. Mr W. Press, on behalf of the residents of Dalefield and the surrounding district, asked Miss Zillwood to accept and open the many gift parcels. On behalf of the Dalefield Flockey Club, Mr Tievor Hooper asked Mr Lindsay Bicknell to accept a fire screen. On behalf of Miss Zillwood and himself, Mr Bicknell suitably returned thanks. The music for the dancing which was much appreciated, was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs Hughes and Messrs Trevor Hooper and C. Bell. The duties of M.C. was carried out by Mr V. J. Ashton. Supper was provided. CARRINGTON GATHERING MISS G. WILSON GUEST OF HONOUR. At the Carrington school on Saturday evening a dance and “parcel evening” was tendered Miss Gladys Wilson, in honour of her marriage which will take place on Saturday next. Dancing was indulged in during the evening to music supplied by Mrs 8.. E. Clarke and Mr J. Parker, extras being played by Messrs C. E. and G. Miller. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs Clarke and Mr E. L. Rayner. Mr B. E. Clarke was an excellent M.C. Mi Clarke, on behalf of the settlers asked Miss Wilson to accept and open the many parcels. Mr G. Reidy, on behalf of Miss Wilson, suitably returned thanks. BOWLING RINK CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. The final competition for the club’s rink championship which was played on Saturday on a well prepared green and in fine weather, was won by Sorensen’s rink. The following were the teams and scores: —G. Steven, A. E. Pankhurst, H. Simmonds, W. C. M. Sorensen (s), 28; J. Newbould, E. T. Beaven, G. Hughan, F. L. Barr (s), 8. Other games resulted as follows: — Adams, Clarke, Whyte, Barber (s) beat Irwin, Colson, Underhill, G. W. Hart (s), 21/15; Hill, Hawker, Riggs, Callender (s) beat Dudson, McCarty, De Lacey, J. Harp (s), 22/17; Smith, Billington. Harris, Tucker (s) beat Kilmister, Foss, W. Hart, Martin (s), 23/16. Afternoon tea was presided over by Mrs Billington and Misses Colson and Boden, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded. Personal Items. During the afternoon tea adjournment at the Carterton Bowling Club green on Saturday afternoon, the president, Mr F. L. Barr, stated that the club's vice-president, Mr Carl Larsen, was now a member of the New Zealand military forces. Mr A. Goulden, another member of the club, had enlisted in the R.A.F. and would soon leave Carterton to take up his duties. They were valued members of the club and he wished them good luck and a safe return to civil life. The patron, Mr Gordon Hughan, referred in eulogistic terms to the service both members had rendered the club. Mr Sorensen was saked to convey to Mr Goulden the club’s best wishes. Mr Robert Couper, of Wellington, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday, and was the guest of his son and daughter-in-law, Cobden Road, Belvedere. Constable and Mrs Williams, who had spent a holiday at Pukerua Bay, l have returned to Carterton. Bow I inn. Four members of the Upper Hutt Bowling Club visited Carterton at the weekend and had a pleasant time at bowling with Carterton members. Tn connection with the Ladies’ Bowling Club it is proposed to hold a progressive pairs tourney during the Easter holidays. Mrs B. Booth has signified her intention of donating a trophy for competition. REGENT THEATRE “FLIGHT COMMAND.” There will be shown tonight “Flight Command,” an outstanding dfama, featuring Ruth Hussey, Walter Pidgeon and Paul Kelly.
