GLADSTONE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Gladstone Women’s Institute was held on Thursday when Mrs Joblin presided over a good attendance of members. The annual report was read and adopted. The financial position showed a very satisfactory position despite a heavy expenditure. Motions of sympathy were passed to those who had suffered bereavements during the year. Biscuits and books were brought for distribution to soldiers in hospital. Members were asked to help to supply bandages for the Home Guard and send to Mrs Britton who will forward them to the proper quarter. Mrs McKay’s resignation as secretary was received with regret. Mrs Britton was elected in her place. The competition winners were:— Doll competition: Mrs Britton 1, Mrs Crew 2. Bloom: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Musgrove 2. Mrs Smith gave a very interesting talk on emergency precautions. Miss J. Palmer and helpers served afternoon tea. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mrs Joblin (re-elected); vice-presidents, Miss J. Palmer and Miss N. Bubb; secretary, Mrs V. Britton; committee, Mesdames Wellwood, Parker, P. Cooper, Wyeth, Misses Crew, M. Cooper and C. Cooper; competitions and stalls,’ Miss C. Cooper; visitors’ book, Miss A. Bubb; fines, Mrs Bradley; press correspondent, Mrs S. Henderson; auditor, Mr S. Smith.
